Background
The faculty has developed a methodology to manufacture inorganic calcium phosphate by a patented combustion synthesis process. The inorganic powder can be used in advanced biomedical implant devices and avoids the market limitations of the organic sources (bovine, human). An organic source of calcium phosphate limits sales to a domestic market. European and Asian markets are excluded due to restrictive regulations.

The faculty’s process is a unique, patented solution to producing calcium phosphate from inorganic sources. The process can be used to make porous structures that would mimic animal or human bone mechanical properties and can also be applied to powdered metals for biomedical applications.

The primary market for the inorganic calcium phosphate would be drug development and implant device manufacturing. Other products include nickel titanium and cobalt chromium.
